Kenya Medical Training College has announced fully funded scholarships for specialised higher diploma programmes in urology, nephrology and allied disciplines.
The opportunity, offered in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the East Africa Centre of Excellence in Urology and Nephrology, is open for the March 2026 intake, with applications closing in mid-March 2026 nationwide.
In a statement on Thursday, KMTC said it was “officially inviting applications for the March 2026 intake” in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the East Africa Centre of Excellence in Urology and Nephrology (EACE-UN).
The college described the development as “exciting scholarship news”, noting that the opportunity targets eligible candidates applying for Higher Diplomas in Urology Nursing and Nephrology Nursing, among other specialised programmes.
The East Africa Centre of Excellence in Urology and Nephrology, it said, “is a project funded through a loan from the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the government of Kenya”.
According to KMTC, the scholarships cover nine specialised programme areas offered across its campuses.
These include Higher Diplomas in Medical Engineering with specialisations in Dialysis Equipment, Therapeutic Equipment and Diagnostic Equipment, each running for two years on a full-time basis.
Other programmes include a Higher Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery (Nephrology), Higher Diploma in Nephrology Nursing, and a Short Course in Renal Transplant Nursing lasting six months.
Also listed are Higher Diplomas in Nutrition and Dietetics (Renal Nutrition), Medical Laboratory Technology, Occupational Therapy (Rehabilitation), and Renal Pharmacy.
KMTC said the scholarships are “available for successful applicants from the Ministry of Health and County Governments”, adding that tuition fees and a stipend would be covered during the study period.
Under the eligibility criteria, County Government employees within the Republic of Kenya will be prioritised.
The college also listed employees of the Kenya Medical Training College among preferred candidates.
Applicants must have work experience of at least three years at a county health facility, be registered with the respective regulatory body for the basic training, and have secured approval and release by the county.
The selection process involves multiple stages. Each candidate must receive a recommendation by the employer during the application, followed by shortlisting by KMTC and selection by the KMTC-EACE program scholarships selection committee.
Successful applicants will then undergo admission by the KMTC and release and bonding by the employer as per the Public Service Commission guidelines, before final enrolment.
To apply, candidates are required to submit their applications through the KMTC admissions portal.
The application process includes registering an account, selecting the EACE-UN Scholarship option, and completing an online form.
Applicants must also download the form, have it signed appropriately, scan the form into pdf format, log in to your portal and upload the duly filled form.
In addition, those seeking funding must attach a handwritten essay of not more than two hundred (200) words explaining why they feel that they deserve the scholarship and the contribution they will make to the community upon graduation.
KMTC emphasised that to be awarded a scholarship, you must get an unconditional offer for one of your course choices.
The institution cautioned that the scholarships are subject to the availability of funding.
Applications are required to reach the Chief Executive Officer of KMTC on or before March 15, 2026.
KMTC, which describes itself as “an ISO 9001:2015 Certified Institution”, says the initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen specialised healthcare training in Kenya, particularly in renal and urology services.
The March 2026 intake is expected to boost the number of specialised health professionals supporting county and national referral facilities, especially in areas linked to dialysis, transplant care, renal nutrition and biomedical engineering support.
